40+ and Fit

I won’t lie getting older really sucks but it doesn’t have to…..

As a woman now in her 50’s I can say with all honesty that the idea of getting older really does suck. Especially when it comes to your body, skin, teeth, sleeping habits, and hormones. I personally didn’t really even think about it until I started to experience the odd ache and pain that, to be honest, I had never experienced before.

Those are some of the things many of us experience as we age but there are also a lot of great things about getting older and being in our 40s that don’t suck.

Your 40’s really are the best time of your life!

Your 40’s are a moment when you can look back and look forward and know that you can still do all things you have always wanted to do but for whatever reason didn’t do in your 20s and 30s. Sports, Athletics, Weight Lifting & many other healthy activities become a possibility but for a lot of us, 40-something’s a reality.

Even in your 40’s you can start to work toward any fitness goal that you choose - you can learn to play a sport, or maybe you just want to be fit and sexy for the love of your life the possibilities are endless, but the first and most important thing you have to do is start. Starting a plan to get fit at any age can be tough and hard - The benefits of starting to get fit and pushing through those tough and sometimes really hard moments will be worth it.

The burning question on every 40-something’s mind is how do I start?

Start at a place you know - think about the kinds of fitness goals you would like to achieve and visualize yourself achieving them. Think about the kinds of activities that you like to do or that maybe you used to do and stopped doing. All of these ideas, thoughts, and memories count as fitness goals - there is no right or wrong.

Having coached a number of women in their 40 I recognized that not everyone is the same and the starting point for some may be completely different for others, it will always come down to what you want to achieve long-term and what you want your training focus to be to get you there.

40+ and Fit

While I don’t expect people to sit around and just visualize their fitness goals - I do expect that before you go out and begin any fitness activity you do actually give it some thought answering the who, what, where, when, and why before joining a gym or jumping into a fitness routine. Like most things having a good foundation from the start can help make the path to your goals a reality.
